What the credentials mean

I-CAR Gold Class is the recognition I-CAR, the collision industry's training organization, gives to shops whose technicians keep up ongoing training in their roles.

AAA Approved Auto Repair shops have been inspected by AAA, meet its standards for equipment, training and customer service, and agree to have AAA step in on a member's complaint.

BBB accreditation means the business has applied to the Better Business Bureau and committed to its standards for handling customers. We list accreditation only, never a letter grade.

Carmaker certification means a manufacturer has confirmed the shop has the tools, training and facilities its repair procedures call for.

Frequently asked questions

How do you rank auto body and collision repair shops?

Every shop in a city is scored on the same published credentials — I-CAR Gold Class, carmaker certifications, AAA approval, BBB accreditation and years in business — and the ten with the most points are listed. Shops cannot pay to be ranked.

Why don't you use star ratings?

Ratings can be bought, filtered and gamed, and they say little about whether a shop is trained and equipped for a particular repair. Credentials are issued by third parties and anyone can check them; every one we list links to its source.

My city isn't listed. What can I do?

We add cities as we research them. Meanwhile, the credentials explained on this page are what to look for in any body shop: most issuers publish a locator you can search yourself.
